Cheddar has recently signed up to join the Plastic-Free Communities scheme, which our neighbours in Wells and Burnham are already part of. I’ve been part of the committee meetings where we are planning our path to satisfying the various criteria required of us by Surfers Against Sewage who administer the scheme, which is all about tackling single-use plastics. The Parish Council has pledged to support the project, and we will be looking for local businesses, schools, and other organisations to volunteer to replace some plastic items they routinely use or sell, with a sustainable alternative.
For the last couple of years the Parish Council has also supported the Great British Spring Clean initiative and last month I was out litterpicking the Strawberry Line path as part of this, with a group of other residents and councillors. There’ll be another litterpick as part of the Plastic-Free initiative later in the year. If you’d like to get involved in either of these schemes and help to clean up our village, please get in touch.
