Goats! Very popular with our visitors but when they get in to your garden and treat it as a breakfast stop, not so much. In my first meeting as Highways and Open Spaces chair, there had been recent problems with a large number of goats roaming the village and causing damage to trees and plants. A representative from Longleat Estates was present to hear concerns from several residents. Certainly a baptism of fire in the chair! Since that time, Longleat, the National Trust and others have been monitoring and managing numbers of goats, and the council has built a good working relationship with the various land management organisations. Yes there are still goats getting into places they shouldn’t be (including my garden!), but things have certainly improved since 2016.
