Site visits

From time to time councillors receive invitations to visit local businesses and they don’t come much bigger than Batts Combe quarry. I went along with other councillors in 2017 to listen to a presentation about quarry operations, followed by an opportunity to raise questions and concerns from residents, on topics such as vibrations from blasting, lorry movements, and dust emissions. The visit finished with a tour of the quarry including a ride up to the top where this photo was taken. It’s a perspective on Cheddar than not many see, and really shows the size of the operation.
